The
Alentejo province an outstanding wine region. At the end of 1988, we,
Helga and Wolfgang Delfs decided to give up our game Farming enterprise
in Namibia South-West-Africa for various reaseons, and to continue in a
smaller style in Portugal.
The open wide hilly planes with scattered oaks, pine-trees resembled Africa conditions. The
hot dry summer, the raining season in winter proofed to be acceptable
for our various Antelopes, Gazelles, Ostriches, Buffalos and Lamas.
When the estate was bought 1988 there existed a plantation of more than
35 ha of red wine, which were later replaced by more modern grape varieties
as 6 ha Aragonêz red, 3 ha Trincadeira red. These two varieties are
blended in to a Cuveé which resulted in a wine of superieur quality
well balanced, harmonious and of deep ruby apearance.
White wine: 3 ha Arinto and 1 ha Chardonnay The Arinto
is an old classical Portuguese varietie and resambles highest quality
Riesling. Blended together we obtain a fresh fruty wine, which may be
comsumed immidiatly, but can also be cellared for some years which
gives it a smoky honeytone.
In the year 2005 our Palanca Royal red 2003 and white 2004 were awarded at the famous Mundus Vine in Gremany with the notes "Very Good". At 2006 our 2003 red was prized with a Gold Medaille at the Concours Mondial Bruxelles and in the Mundus Vini 2006 our Palanca Royal 2004 barrique has been awarded with a "Silver Medaille" and the other red wine Palanca Royal 2004 has been awarded "Very Good".
