The wines from this region benefit from the granite soil and the micro-climate. protected against the wind by mountains, with adequate rainfall and low yields per hectare are exceptionally bodied wines. Normally, wines from this region with ruby colored and velvety reds associated, but also the whites are due to their lightness and their flavour popular. There are also white wines from the grape variety produces Encruzado, typical of the Däo region and in other regions rather rare.

Dominant Grapes: Touriga Nacional, Jaen, Alfrocheiro Preto, Encruzado.

Dão (D.O.C)
This major region is in the heart of the Beira Alta and produces many red and white red wines.
The Dão region is to the east of the Bairrada region being geographically larger in size and covering 16 municipalities in the area between Viseu, Guarda and Coimbra.
The vines are grown in the valleys on slopes generally starting at an altitude of 200 mts. up to about 500 mts. The soil is basically from granite that favours the red varieties. The reds are strong, deep in color and full-bodied. The whites tend to be aromatic and fruity and some are bottled as sparkling rosé.
